Fiery 2-2 Draw as Playoff Race Heats Up

York vs Atleti celebrated a Fiesta Latina at York Lions with a draw 2-2, same finish as the last two meetings but this one full of bullets. Samuel Salter did what Salter does, bagging a brace and moving to a league-leading 17 on the season, all outlets calling it a likely Golden Boot clincher. York kept answering: Steffen Yeates pulled one back before the break and Frank Sturing nodded the second in the second half, and the stat nerds will point out York actually won the xG battle (about 2.87 to 1.8) and edged shots 16–15, margins that made the draw feel like both teams missed chances to win.

This was the third straight league draw between them, so the rivalry’s heating but stubbornly tight. York’s point shoves them into fourth (squeaking a spot above Halifax) while Atleti stay two points shy of Forge and head into a big test in Hamilton next week. Both clubs leave knowing the playoff picture’s stacked and every little moment from here on matters.

Samuel Salter hizo lo que sabe, doblete y ya suma 17 en la temporada, perfilándose como Bota de Oro. York respondió con corazón: primero Steffen Yeates antes del descanso, y luego Frank Sturing con un cabezazo en la segunda parte. Los números hasta marcan que York mereció más, con ventaja en xG (2.87 a 1.8) y en disparos (16–15), pero al final ninguno logró liquidar.

Es el tercer empate seguido entre estos dos, un clásico esperado. Con el punto, York sube a la cuarta plaza, apenas encima de Halifax, mientras Atleti sigue a dos de Forge y ahora se prepara para un duro duelo en Hamilton la próxima semana.
