Altobelli gave York hope before halftime, but the CPL champs stayed a step ahead in a 2-1 win.

York United couldn't be superior to the current champions
An early injury to Michael Baldisimo forced York into a first-half substitution, and while they managed to stay in the game — even drawing level through Altobelli right before the break — Cavalry always seemed in control.
Tobias Warchewski opened the scoring for Cavalry in the 42nd minute, before Altobelli responded at the stroke of halftime. But just past the hour mark, Fraser Aird, fresh off the bench, found the winner. York keeper Diego Urtiaga couldn’t close the angle, and Cavalry regained their lead.
York pushed late but couldn’t find another breakthrough. In the end, the CPL champs left with a win that felt earned — and York left with more questions than answers. Final Score Cavalry 2-1 York United.
Next up for the Nine Stripes is a Telus Canadian Championship clash on May 6, 2025, as they host Quebec’s FC Laval at 7:00 p.m. at York Lions Stadium.

York United no pudo superar al actual campeón
Una lesión temprana de Michael Baldisimo obligó a York a hacer un cambio en el primer tiempo, y aunque lograron mantenerse en el partido —incluso empatar con un gol de Altobelli justo antes del descanso—, Cavalry siempre pareció tener el control.
Tobias Warchewski abrió el marcador para Cavalry en el minuto 42, y Altobelli respondió en el cierre del primer tiempo.
