Toronto FC’s first home match of the season brought an energetic crowd to BMO Field, but also a tough 2-1 loss against Chicago Fire.
Deandre Kerr wasn’t expected to start, but a last-minute injury to Ola Brynshilden from Toronto put him in the lineup just five minutes before kickoff. Kerr took full advantage, scoring in the 11th minute after a perfect pass from Bernardeschi.
Chicago responded—Andrew Gutman smashed in a rocket in the 29th minute, and just before halftime, Hugo Cuypers finished off a loose ball in the box.
