Japan has made history by becoming the first nation to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, aside from the host countries. The Samurai Blue secured their spot after defeating Bahrain 2-0 in the third round of the Asian qualifiers. With this victory, Japan sits comfortably at the top of Group C with 19 points—nearly double that of second-place Australia (10).

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has a total of 8 direct spots for the World Cup. The top two teams from each group (A, B, and C) will qualify automatically, while the third- and fourth-place teams will battle it out in a playoff for the remaining berths.
