Toronto AFC with a solid home win over Calgary Wild.

Toronto AFC earned a 2-1 win over Calgary Wild FC in their first official home game at York Lions Stadium — the same ground used by York United in the Canadian Premier League. While the team previously played in Toronto for the league’s opening match, that game was held at a larger venue. York Lions will now serve as Toronto’s regular home for the Northern Super League season.

Esther Okoronkwo stole the show, scoring both goals for the home side. The 28-year-old Nigerian striker sealed the win with a stunning left-footed strike from outside the box, rocketing the ball into the top corner past Calgary keeper Stephanie Bukovec.

The result marks another strong performance from Toronto AFC in the early stages of Canada’s new professional women’s league.

Toronto AFC consiguió una victoria contundente de 2-1 sobre Calgary Wild FC en su primer partido oficial en casa en el York Lions Stadium, el mismo estadio que utiliza el York United en la Canadian Premier League. Aunque el equipo ya había jugado en Toronto durante el partido inaugural de la liga, en esta ocasión lo hizo en un estadio más grande. Ahora, el York Lions será su sede regular para la temporada de la Northern Super League.

La estrella de la noche fue Esther Okoronkwo, quien anotó los dos goles para el equipo local. La delantera nigeriana de 28 años selló la victoria con un impresionante disparo de izquierda desde fuera del área, mandando el balón al ángulo superior, imposible para la portera de Calgary, Stephanie Bukovec.

Este resultado reafirma el buen momento de Toronto AFC en los primeros compases de la nueva liga profesional femenina de Canadá.
